How do Physical and Occupational Therapy Support Denver Workers

When workers in Denver are injured on the job it can feel hopeless in terms of recovering and getting back to work, especially if the injury is to the head, neck, back or spine. The doctors at Midtown Occupational Health take a holistic and collaborative approach to recovery. That means we utilize the skills brought by physical therapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors and massage therapists, among others, to develop and implement a recovery plan.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is a specialized type of physical therapy that helps you develop everyday skills. In most patients in a clinical setting, occupational therapy focuses on basic living – doing laundry, making a sandwich – and can include more physical things like shoveling a sidewalk after it snows. The goal is to do these tasks in a way that is safe on your joints and muscles and that won’t lead to a slip and fall or other injury.

In workplace oriented occupational therapy we focus on some of the same things, but we also make it specific to your job. That way we are considering the factors that might be involved in injury such as chronic overuse of some joints or muscles. We work with you to create the best way to get work done in a healthful manner.

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy focuses on muscle flexibility and strength so you are able to utilize a full range of motion at work and throughout your day. The focus of physical therapy is less on individual tasks, and more on the function of your musculoskeletal and nervous systems as a whole and how they work together to help your body function.

At Midtown Occupational Health, we utilize physical and occupational therapy in conjunction with one another to help patients regain strength and flexibility and to perform work and everyday tasks with as much efficiency and as little risk of re-injury as possible. We want every patient to be able to get back to the workplace in order to live healthy, productive lives.
