Respirator Fit Testing

Respirator Fit Testing at Midtown Occupational Health

Protect Your Employees with Proper Respirator Fit Testing

Midtown Occupational Health offers qualitative respirator fit testing to ensure your employees are properly protected when working in hazardous environments. A proper fit is critical for respirators to function correctly and protect against airborne hazards.

We make the fit testing process simple, efficient, and OSHA-compliant.

Types of Fit Testing Provided

Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT)

  • Applies to half-mask respirators, full-facepiece respirators, and filtering facepiece respirators (e.g., N95s)
  • Uses harmless test agents like saccharin or Bitrex to assess mask seal

Note: Midtown does not currently offer Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT).

When is Fit Testing Required?

There are a number of instances when fit testing is required, including:

  • Before using a respirator for the first time
  • Annually thereafter
  • Whenever a different respirator model or size is used
  • If the employee’s physical condition changes (e.g., weight change, dental work)

Our Fit Testing Process

When you or your employees come to Midtown for respirator fit testing, here is what you should expect:

  • Medical questionnaire review (Respirator Medical Evaluation if required)
  • Step-by-step fit testing by trained staff
  • Documentation provided for employer records
  • Recommendations for correct respirator use and care
