Midtown Occupational Health Services is now offering a Covid-19 rapid antibody test. This test is authorized for emergency use by the FDA, this test involves a specimen collection from the patient of a whole blood sample by the way of a fingerstick. This test is highly sensitive and accurate in detecting the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies to the Novel Corona virus, and results are available within10-15 minutes. IgM antibodies appear in the blood as soon as 3-5 days after being infected with Covid-19 for symptomatic patients and in about 7 days after being infected with Covid-19 for asymptomatic patient’s, IgG antibodies appear within 1-2 weeks after being infected. Over time blood concentrations of both IgM and IgG antibodies decrease, where IgM becomes undetectable but IgG will remain elevated. If no antibodies are detected it may likely be due to past or present infection with Covid-19. If antibodies are detected it may likely be due to past or present infection with Covid-19.
